The Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, has officially declared an end to the illegal sit-at-home order that had disrupted economic and social activities across the state.
The announcement, backed by security agencies, marked a major shift aimed at restoring public confidence, free movement, and normal daily life for residents who had lived under fear and uncertainty.
Confirming the directive, the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ammani, said the command has activated enhanced security deployments across the state.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, officers, operational units, and intelligence assets have been deployed to strategic locations to ensure the safety of lives and property, especially on days previously affected by the sit-at-home order.
Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and tactical units were directed to remain proactive and visible.
Protecting Law-Abiding Citizens
Security authorities stressed that the primary objective of the operation is to allow law-abiding residents to go about their legitimate businesses without intimidation, harassment, or violence.
The police warned that criminal elements exploiting fear to enforce illegal directives would be identified and prosecuted, noting that no individual or group has the authority to shut down a state or restrict citizens’ constitutional rights.
Joint Security Operations
The police confirmed that the operation will be carried out in collaboration with:
- The Nigerian military, and
- Other security and intelligence agencies
This coordinated approach is aimed at dismantling criminal networks, preventing attacks, and maintaining sustained peace across Enugu State.
Call for Public Cooperation
Governor Mbah and the police leadership urged residents to:
- Resume normal activities without fear
- Remain vigilant, and to
- Report suspicious movements or criminal acts promptly
Citizens were encouraged to contact the nearest police station or use designated emergency lines to support rapid response and intelligence gathering.
The sit-at-home order had:
- Disrupted businesses and schools
- Increased economic hardship, and
- Created fear among residents
Ending it represents a significant step toward economic recovery, public safety, and stability in Enugu State.
With firm political backing and reinforced security operations, Enugu State is moving toward restoring order and rebuilding public trust. Authorities insist that peace and lawful conduct-not fear-will define the state going forward.
